Not meant to offend anyone who has or likes these breeds - just my personal least favourite breeds. A lot of my opinions are based on appearance (because let's face it, who would want a dog that they considered unattractive?) and also on past experiences with dogs we've met whilst walking Harvey.
I know that the majority of Great Danes obey the 'gentle giant' preconception. However when a Great Dane (referring to a local park regular) is snappy with your Labrador, it is pretty unpleasant. They are also very drooly...yuck.
#9 Afghan Hound
I know very little about this breed personality-wise so admittedly my dislike is based purely on its looks. To be honest I don't like the look of the long, lank fur - to me it looks like a funny-looking Greyhound.
#8 Basset Hound
I'm not particularly keen on the Basset Hound's face; I find the eyes a little too droopy to be cute. Also unfortunately all of the Basset Hounds I have encountered have been quite grumpy.
#7 Alaskan Malamute
Okay, first thing's first - I think Malamutes are beautiful looking dogs. I love the fur patterns, the curly tail, the face and the piercing eyes. What I don't like however is the temperament. I'm not suggesting all Malamutes are horrible but 9 times out of 10 they are aggressive to our dog. Plus, the majority I've seen are kept permanently on the lead, with a handful fully muzzled.
#6 Toy Poodle
Again, I don't find Toy Poodles unattractive - they're sweet little things to look at. It seems to be in their nature though to be defensive (even with a submissive softy like Harvey) and work as a pack. Personally I find the yappy bark very irritating as well.
#5 Neapolitan Mastiff
The Neapolitan Mastiff is a breed banned in some countries...this can never be a good indicator. Firstly they can be very aggressive (and are HUGE). Secondly - though it may sound cruel - I think they are fairly ugly dogs; the wrinkles, the saggy face, etc.
#4 Jack Russell Terrier
There are few dogs that can match the Jack Russell's energy, enthusiasm and intelligence. However this is usually the route of their naughty and often aggressive behaviour. They are renowned for their confidence but if the owner does not curb their attitude things can get out of hand.
#3 Bulldog
I'm not really superficial (I have cockroaches as pets for one) but I dislike Bulldogs solely based on their appearance. Whilst some people consider them 'so ugly they're cute' I can't bring myself to agree...sorry. I dislike the short, wide body, the teeth (which poke out of the mouth a lot of the time) and the wrinkled face. Pedigree Bulldogs can also suffer problems such as sores and even blindness due to the saggy face.
#2 Bull Terrier
Without going into it too much, this just looks like something from a nightmare! I have also known many Bull Terriers to have a foul attitude...I usually avoid this fairly popular dog breed if I see it.
#1 Dogue de Bordeaux
This breed encompasses nearly all of the above-mentioned reasons for disliking a dog. Let's list them; it's a breed that is often aggressive (which is frightening due to its size), it's wrinkly, drooly, saggy and oafish. Certainly not the breed for me.
Do you agree or disagree with the breeds I've chosen?
