Amphibian Update

The pictures of my African Clawed Frog and my Axolotl are pretty inaccurate to what they look like now! This is an update on their growth.

African Clawed Frog

Frogger back in April (22/04/13)
Frogger now (12/07/13)

This change in less than 3 months is astounding when you see the two pictures together! Frogger still looks tadpole-ish on the left - the eyes and front feet aren't properly formed and the body is shapeless and texture-less. In comparison, he/she (we don't know the gender yet!) looks a lot more like an adult African Clawed Frog on the right hand picture. On the right the eyes have formed visibly and have noticeable pupils. The body has also become more muscular with an obvious waist and the limbs are more defined - the back legs are springy and powerful and have small claws forming on each digit.

Axolotl back in May (07/05/13)
Axolotl now (12/07/13)
Two months has mad a huge difference to our baby Axolotl! As with Frogger, the Axolotl looked barely more than a tadpole in May - the body was skinny and fairly see-through and the gills were unformed. There were also no limbs (front or back) present. However, as you can see from the second picture, the body has filled out impressively, as has the tail with it now fanning out more. The gills are now very noticeable (nice and puffy!) and the front limbs are formed well. It's difficult to see from the picture but back limb 'sprouts' are also present and the 'lotl should soon have formed hind legs. I also have to say - his/her colour and pattern are beautiful; it almost looks like the body has been sprinkled with glitter! A huge thank you again to The Walking Fish from which I purchased the little one!
