On Saturday (06/07/13) my Mum and I decided to go to the annual All Creatures Great and Small open day - a charity event run by the sanctuary. We had a lovely time and entered Harvey into the charity dog show.

He came second in the Gundog & Hound class. Well done Harvey!

How to set-up a Turtle Habitat

This is an article on how to set-up an aquatic turtle tank. All pictures included are of our tank!

1. The Tank

The tank can vary depending on the species of turtle chosen. Our turtles are map turtles (Graptemys) which are an aquatic species - meaning they naturally live in and/or around water. These turtles are strong swimmers and prefer deeper water, compared to musk turtles (Sternotherus) for example which prefer shallow water.

A Tribute to Honey

Stuck for what to write this evening but had inspiration when looking through old pictures! Therefore this post is a tribute to my guinea pig, Honey, who we lost in 2012.

When Honey passed she was NINE years old but still full of life! The average lifespan of guinea pigs is around 6 years so she was an O.A.P. to say the least.

How to set-up & maintain a Syrian Hamster Habitat (Starring Princess!)

Here is a video I made today on how to house a Syrian Hamster - this can also be applied to two dwarf hamsters as they can live in the same cage (and use the same equipment).

Ruby Wheel-Running (and Meerkating...)

This is our youngest hamster, Ruby, running on her wheel yesterday at around midnight. It can get quite noisy here at night!

Like most hamsters she loves a good wheel-run. Being her adorable self though she also does some (what I call) 'meerkating' - standing up on her hind legs and peeping around. Cute!

Unboxing my new Axolotl!

Here's a video of me opening up a parcel containing my newest pet - an axolotl!

He/she is really small and only 2cm from nose to tail. This is a baby Golden Albino Axolotl and is around 12 weeks old. It may be difficult to see on the video, but the body is golden yellow and the gills are red - in my opinion the most striking of the axolotl colours.
